College Application Essay Coaching

The college application process is a lot:

  • Picking schools
  • Listing the last four years of your life in an activity list
  • Juggling due dates
  • Forms, forms, forms!

Add in crafting the perfect personal statement essay that is unique, tells your story, and wows the admission’s office in fewer than 650 words and applying to schools can be downright overwhelming.

You’re more than a list of grades and activities!

The essays are where you make this impersonal process personal.

The challenge? These essays are like no other essay you’ve written before.

Your personal statement is an opportunity to let YOUR voice shine through in a way that a list of high school activities and a transcript just can’t.

Making a great first impression can feel daunting.  Especially with such a small word count. It’s common to stare at the blank page unable to think of a single thing to write about or that makes you stand out.

But trust me – there is no one exactly like you.

And I’m here to help you create a personal statement that reflects YOU and the special sauce you will bring to your college choices!

I am here to guide you through the personal statement essay process by:

  • Brainstorming with you which question best suits you
  • Digging deep into your why
  • Crafting a framework for you to write an essay that engages

We will accomplish this with individual, one-on-one coaching.

We’ll get to know each other first. I want to know what you’ve been up to and your goals for college.

Then, we’ll take a look at the Common App personal statement prompts to narrow down which fit you most comfortably.

Next, we’ll work together to brainstorm what topics to cover for each section.

Finally, we’ll create a rough structure so you can write your draft with confidence.

Once you draft an essay, I’ll provide feedback and we can go back and forth on revisions for a few passes until you’re happy with your statement.

Let’s take some of the pain out of the essay writing process.

Sound good?

I get it, it can be hard to help your kids with this part of their application.

I coach writers for a living and it was still a challenge when my son applied to schools.

But using these techniques, we were able to find an approach to his essay that was truly unique, told his story, and was interesting to read.

My favorite moment was when he opened his first acceptance email to a top choice school, hugged me, and said, “I think it was the essay!”

Sometimes our kids need an impartial and outside perspective.

I can provide that for your kid, so you can sit back and enjoy their senior year.

(Well, that and fill out your FAFSA forms!)

Let’s get to the nitty gritty. What does this look like?

I am a writer and certified book coach. I’m also a mom of a college freshman who has personally walked through this process.

I work with writers every day through the planning, drafting, and revision processes of writing a novel.

When I work with writers, we dig deep into story why and story point to clearly tell the story on the page. This process works whether you’re writing a 90,000 word novel or a 650 word application essay.
